A last word from Thomas Mann
And out of this worldwide festival of death, this ugly rutting fever that inflames the evening sky all round -- will love someday rise up out of this, too?
Islamophobia is such a stupid word.
As if there is no rational reason for being afraid of Islam.
And it also insinuates irrational behavior due to that fear, which is not happening in this instance. People protesting the building of a mosque in a place destroyed by Islamic terrorists is not irrational.
[don’t worry dear, as long as you clutch your flag and repeat the pledge of allegiance, you’ll be protected from the hordes of swarthy fiends. – hn]
Personal insults only expose your inability to rationally discuss the topic at hand. 🙂 [You’re right. I was just overawed by the argumentative splendor of your semantic carping. -hn]
[Wingnut digest: blarghy blargh shariah MOOOSLIMS! blargh. fart.]
[Extended self-important pedantry]
Your blog sucks…especially evident in your heavy-handed editing of perfectly decent comments. [Personal insults only expose your inability to rationally discuss the topic at hand.]
Islam had as much to do with 9/11 as conservatism had to do with Oklahoma City.
[further pedantry]
Now see here. I don’t believe I’ve ever given the impression that my blog is anything other than my own personal masturbatory fiefdom. I’m not in the least bit interested in your opinions as to the allegedly incorrect uses of various words, or anything for that matter. I say all this because, despite the sticky sweet smell of a vast overestimation of one’s own intelligence that wafts off of every sentence you write, you still have not managed to grasp that I couldn’t give two fucks about anything you say. I’ve had fun so far, maintaining the moral high ground through my principled application of scorn and contempt, but we both knew the honeymoon had to end. I’m afraid that all further posts from you will be deleted, with all the prejudice that my nasty authoritarian personality can muster.
The hullabaloo surrounding the building of this Islamic Center is a distraction. Idiotic, really. Also, the fact someone was holding up a sign quoting the revered reactionary Gandhi should be cause for some alarm. Most of the ones protesting the building of this center are racists and xenophobes, while many of the ones defending it are the types who hysterically celebrate any display of “diversity” or “multiculturalism,” no matter how sexist, superstitious, and backwards the cultural institution is.
If they put up the money and obtained the property rights to build it, though, they should be able to go ahead and build it. I say this not as some great friend of Islam (far from it; of the great monotheisms, its followers are easily the most backwards and dangerous at the moment), but as a Leftist who would like to see everyone receive the same opportunity guaranteed by mere liberal democracy.
